Network Security

Network fundamentals, common threats and attacks, and the infrastructure used to secure networks.

Core networking for CC: the OSI and TCP/IP models, IP addressing, ports and protocols, and devices (switches, routers, firewalls). Understanding normal operation is needed to recognize attacks.

Common threats/attacks: malware (viruses, worms, ransomware, trojans), DoS/DDoS, on-path (MITM), spoofing, phishing/social engineering, and insider threats. Attackers follow a lifecycle (reconnaissance → exploitation → action), and defenders counter each stage.

Which attack floods a system or network to make it unavailable to legitimate users?

Ransomware primarily threatens which element of the CIA triad first?
