Routing
Configure static and policy routes, understand route selection, RPF, and ECMP, and troubleshoot the FIB and routing decisions.
FortiGate builds its routing table / FIB from connected, static, and dynamic routes. When multiple routes to the same destination exist, selection follows a strict order:
1. Longest prefix match (most specific subnet wins).
2. Lowest administrative distance (trustworthiness of the source; static default is 10).
3. Lowest metric/priority among equal-distance routes.
get router info routing-table all
get router info routing-table database
The *routing-table* shows active (best) routes; the *database* shows all candidates including inactive ones.
When two routes to the same prefix have different administrative distances, which is installed?
Which factor is evaluated FIRST when selecting a route?
